The Harmony of the Gospels – Week 34 – Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
Jesus leaves the triumphal entry, weeps over Jerusalem’s spiritual blindness, and warns that their rejection of Him will lead to devastating judgment, which is fulfilled decades later in 70 AD. The next morning, He curses a leafy fig tree that appears fruitful but has no figs, using it as a living parable of Israel’s religious leaders who look righteous outwardly yet produce no true spiritual fruit. Jesus then teaches His disciples that genuine faith requires hearing from God and bearing real fruit, urging believers to examine their hearts so they do not drift into hypocrisy or hard‑heartedness like the Pharisees.
